List Alphabetizer — Sort Lines A to Z

The list alphabetizer sorts any collection of lines into clean A-to-Z order in a single click, with no spreadsheet software or manual effort required. Blank lines are stripped out automatically, so your output is always tight and ready to use. Whether you are organizing a word list, cleaning up tags, or preparing an index, the result is instant and never leaves your browser.

Benefits

Manually sorting even a modest list is tedious and error-prone. This tool removes that friction entirely:

  • One-click sorting: Paste your list, press the button, and get perfectly ordered output in under a second.
  • Automatic blank-line removal: Empty lines are filtered out before sorting, saving you a cleanup step.
  • Vietnamese-aware ordering: Diacritical characters are sorted correctly rather than lumped together by raw character code.
  • Completely private: Everything runs client-side — your data is never uploaded to any server.
  • No install needed: Works in any modern browser on desktop or mobile.

Use cases

An alphabetizer is useful far beyond simple word lists:

  • Sorting attendee or student name lists before printing or sharing.
  • Organizing keyword lists for SEO campaigns or content briefs.
  • Building glossaries, indexes, or reference sections for documentation.
  • Cleaning up tag or category lists for a CMS or e-commerce platform.
  • Preparing sorted bibliographies or citation lists for reports and papers.
  • Deduplication workflows — sort first, then spot duplicates side by side.

How to use

Getting a sorted list takes three steps:

  • Step 1 — Paste your list: Enter or paste your items into the input box, one item per line.
  • Step 2 — Click Sort A-Z: Hit the sort button. Blank lines are removed and all remaining lines are ordered alphabetically.
  • Step 3 — Copy the result: Use the Copy button to grab the sorted list and paste it wherever you need it.

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle accented or non-English characters correctly? Yes. The tool uses Unicode-aware locale comparison, so accented letters sort in their natural alphabetical position rather than being pushed to the end.

Is there a limit on how many lines I can sort? No hard limit is enforced. The tool handles lists of several thousand lines smoothly in any modern browser.

Are uppercase and lowercase letters treated differently? By default, uppercase entries are ordered before their lowercase equivalents ("Apple" before "apple"), following standard dictionary conventions.

Can I sort in reverse Z-to-A order? The current tool sorts A to Z. For reverse order, paste your sorted result into a text editor and reverse the line order, or check back as additional sort options may be added.
