Screen Resolution Checker

The screen resolution checker instantly detects your display's pixel dimensions, device pixel ratio (DPR), browser viewport size, and aspect ratio — all in one place, directly in your browser with no software to install or permissions to grant.

Benefits of the screen resolution checker

  • Reveals both physical screen resolution and CSS logical resolution side by side, making it easy to spot Retina and HiDPI displays at a glance.
  • Reports the device pixel ratio (DPR) so you know exactly how many physical pixels back each CSS pixel on your device.
  • Shows the live browser viewport size, which differs from the full screen resolution due to toolbars and OS chrome.
  • Works on every device — desktop, laptop, tablet, and smartphone — with no login or account required.
  • Values update in real time as you resize the browser window, making it ideal for responsive design testing.

Use cases for the screen resolution checker

  • Front-end developers verifying which CSS breakpoint is currently active during responsive layout debugging.
  • UI/UX designers confirming that a design renders at the expected proportions on a target device or monitor size.
  • QA testers capturing exact display specs to attach to bug reports so developers can reproduce rendering issues reliably.
  • Content creators and marketers determining the right pixel dimensions for banners, hero images, or social media covers on real devices.
  • Remote tech support asking end users to share their screen resolution to diagnose display-related problems quickly.

How to use the screen resolution checker

  1. Open the tool page — your screen resolution and display data appear immediately, no button click required.
  2. Read the reported values: screen resolution (e.g. 2560×1440), browser viewport dimensions, DPR, and aspect ratio.
  3. Resize the browser window to watch the viewport values update live and identify your CSS breakpoints in action.
  4. Copy the figures you need and paste them into a bug report, design spec, or team message for precise reference.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between screen resolution and viewport size? Screen resolution is the total pixel count of your physical display. Viewport size is the visible area inside the browser window, which is smaller because browser toolbars, address bars, and OS window borders take up space.

What does Device Pixel Ratio (DPR) mean? DPR tells you how many physical pixels correspond to a single CSS pixel. A DPR of 2 means your screen is Retina-class — images should be exported at double the CSS dimensions to appear sharp.

Why does the checker show a lower resolution than my monitor spec? Operating systems apply display scaling (e.g. 150% or 200%) on high-resolution monitors so that text and UI elements remain readable. The tool reports the scaled CSS resolution; multiply by the DPR to get the raw physical pixel count.

Does this work on mobile devices? Yes, it works in any modern browser on iOS and Android. On mobile you will typically see a high DPR (2–3) and a viewport much narrower than the physical pixel count, reflecting how browsers handle high-density mobile screens.
