Vietnam License Plate Lookup
Enter a plate code or province name to see where a vehicle is registered — updated after the 1 July 2025 provincial merger
Type the first 2 digits of the plate, paste the whole plate, or type a province name (no diacritics needed).
Do license plates need to change after the provincial merger?
No. From 1 July 2025 the country has 34 provinces and cities, but vehicles registered and plated before that date keep using their old plates as normal, valid nationwide and not required to change. All old regional plate codes are retained. You only receive a new plate code when you transfer ownership or re-register in the new locality.
Based on Circular 79/2024/TT-BCA and Circular 51/2025/TT-BCA of the Ministry of Public Security. This tool shows both the province that originally issued the plate and the corresponding province today.
